A Fringe Necklace Elevates a Basic Outfit

A fringe necklace can elevate a basic outfit. I reached for this accessory yesterday while wearing a khaki tee and black shorts. The outfit needed a little something to add interest. A fringe necklace and leopard print cape later, I was ready to walk out the door.

Every time I wear my fringe necklace, I get compliments. It is really an ideal accessory to own if you wear

Your fringe necklace will add that bit of ‘extra’ to an ordinary outfit.

Fringe is popular in homewares and interiors, so it’s no surprise to see it feature in fashion as well. The best thing about a fringe necklace is that it doesn’t require washing, therefore the fronds won’t matt together.

A fringe necklace is not an easy accessory to find. I’ve found a few online that may take your fancy if you’re keen to add this accessory to your wardrobe. If the material fringe is a bit too bold, why not go for a tassel necklace instead?

Long Haul Flight Fashion Essentials – What I Wore on the Plane to the US

If you’re ever overwhelmed with what to wear on a long haul flight or on what to pack in your overnight case, I’m hoping this post will make it simple for you. I’m breaking it down into long haul flight fashion essentials so you are prepared, no matter what situation you face, while travelling.

In today’s post I’m sharing what I wore on the plane and what I packed in my overnight case. This packing guide will save your butt if your luggage gets lost at your destination. It will also ensure you have essentials for a good night’s sleep if your long haul flight is an overnighter.

When we recently travelled to Los Angeles, we flew to Auckland and had a 5 hour stopover. This stopover was ideal as we had a shower in the lounge and I was able to change into my sleep outfit and get the girls into their pyjamas.

My mum is a seasoned traveler who is highly organised and a planner. I have learned from her to ALWAYS pack spare clothes in my overnight case. It’s something ingrained in me that I can’t not do because I know without a doubt, the moment I DON’T have spare clothes with me, something will happen where I will DESPERATELY need them.

You only learn once in these circumstances. I learned my lesson 18 years ago when I was coming home from the Whitsundays via train from schoolies week.

All my clothes were packed in my suitcase, which was located in the undercarriage.

I fell asleep on the train and when I woke up I felt unusually wet at my crotch. I had gotten my period and my pants were soaked. I panicked as I was with other teens on the train and I had NOTHING on me to clean the mess or hide my embarrassment.

A good friend who was sitting next to me helped me by giving me her sweater to tie around my waist and she offered me the jeans she was wearing as she had white shorts in her bag she could change into. I was so grateful to my friend for helping me and I learned to ALWAYS have sanitary items in my bag no matter what, and when travelling, to always have a spare pair of knickers and outfit. You just never know what situation can arise when travelling.

What to Wear on a Long Haul Flight

I didn’t get a photo of my outfit when we left for the airport. But this family photo shows you exactly what I was wearing when we left from Brisbane to Auckland.

I opted for a leopard print t-shirt from City Chic (no longer available but the blue version is available in limited sizes here) with stretchy jeggings from Crossroads and my Frankie 4 Nat sneakers. My bag is the Santorini from The Wanderers Travel Co. It proved to be a brilliant bag to travel with and the ideal size for holding all my essentials and bottles of water while walking through Disneyland.

I opted for a dark, patterned tee to hide any food stains or marks, which I’m always prone to get when eating on a flight. I can’t stand having anything around my neck on a flight so I kept my scarf as a wrap for sleeping only.

I also took my active jacket from Cotton On as an extra layer on the plane if I got cold.

  2.  Cotton On Active Jacket $49.99
  3.  Everyday Cashmere Transit Wrap $276
  4.  The Wanderers Travel Co Santorini Satchel $299
  5.  The Wanderers Travel Co Capri Travel Wallet $169
  6.  Frankie 4 Nat Sneakers in White $229.95
  7.  Crossroads Slim Shape Skinny Jean with Stretch $29.97

What to Sleep in on a Long Haul Flight

In Auckland, I changed my pants into bamboo sleep recovery pants from Cotton On. I put on a long sleeved stripe top from Witchery as I knew it would get cool on the plane. On the way over, my ankles swelled terribly, so my mum bought me compression socks at the airport on the way home. When you’re travelling long haul, have some compression socks just in case. I never used to swell on the plane, but now I do.

We flew Premium Economy so received an eye mask for sleeping. Sometimes your flight will give these to you in economy. If not, make sure you bring an eye mask to block out light from the passengers who like to have a light on to read.

  2.  Compression Socks $19.95
  3.  Everyday Cashmere Transit Wrap $276
  4.  Cotton On Active Jacket $49.99
  5.  Frankie 4 Nat Sneaker $229.95
  6.  Cotton On Sleep Recovery Pant $34.95

What to Pack in your Overnight Case

In my overnight case I packed a spare pair of jeans, a t-shirt, underwear, coat, leopard print scarf, boots and my clothes for sleeping in. I wore all these pieces when I was in America. I also packed the same pieces when we flew back.

My Lands End down coat is a jacket I have owned for 12 years. It’s one of those jackets you buy once and they can last for ages. The one pictured below is similar to the black one I own. It’s always best to buy down jackets from overseas during the off season – their summer when they are generally on sale.

  1. Birdsnest Butterfly Kisses Tee $49.95
  2.  Lands End Down Coat $206.43US
  3.  Witchery Stripe Rib Long Sleeve Tee $49.95
  4.  Cotton On Sleep Recovery Pant $34.95
  5.  Compression Socks $19.95
  6.  Frankie 4 Laura Boot in black $289.95
  7.  You Rock Style Leopard Print Scarf $34.95

If you wanted to add colour into each capsule, change the scarf to a brighter hue instead of black. My cashmere scarf was a blush pink as it matched in with my leopard print tee. The benefits of having a minimal colour scheme is that everything can be worn with each other to make multiple outfits.

6 Ways to Bring Colour Into Your Outfit When You Don’t Wear Colour

I try to wear colour everyday. Colour makes me happy and it’s a way for me to share my personality with my style.

But not everyone is like me. Colour may make you run for the hills. Neutrals or black may be your preferred colours to wear.

Neutrals certainly have their place in a wardrobe. But adding colour can elevate an outfit simply with an accessory or block colour shoe.

If you’re one to draw away from colour, maybe this year you could embrace one signature colour to add to your outfits. Red has always been my colour, but when I peruse my wardrobe, I think teal would give the red a run for its money.

I was quite taken by this teal off the shoulder top I bought on the weekend from Rockmans. It was less than half price at $20. I knew I had the shorts, jeans, matching earrings and sandals to give this top maximum wear in my wardrobe. It was going to slide in quite nicely with what I owned. And this is a key rule when shopping as a personal stylist.

For some, the pattern and colour may be too bright, but for me, I love it. I’ve never been one to shy away from a bold print and bright colour.

If you’re hesitant about wearing colour, here are some ways to bring colour into your outfit.

1. Wear a bright tassel earring. If you have dark hair, bright colours are your friend as the dark colours of black and brown and even navy will blend in with your hair.

2. If a tassel earring is too bold, try a block colour stud earring instead. Ruby Olive have some fabulous stud earrings that are affordable.

3. Add a bright belt. My favourite belt colours are red and orange as they play well against a black or navy shift dress for work, or a block colour dress for weekend wear.

4. Buy a bright coloured shoe. I have Holster jelly sandals in teal that I love to wear with my casual outfits. It can give a sudden pop to a simple outfit. If you’re not into wearing bright colours, a bold shoe may be a way to dip your toes into wearing colour.

5. Go for colour in a top. Whether it’s a block colour or bright pattern like my off the shoulder number, embrace colour in a top before you venture into dresses or a coloured bottom. The reason for this is you will most likely already have the bottoms to wear with your chosen coloured piece. Secondly, it won’t overwhelm you being head to toe in colour. Thirdly, it’s a way for you to see how colour works with your decollatage and face tones.

6. If you’re saying nup to all of these tips, embrace colour in a tassel keyring and add it to your handbag. Starting small may surprise you and will help you embrace colour more.

Heading into autumn and winter, these months are typically the time to embrace the darker neutrals. But why not try one of my tips and see how it makes you feel?

Do you like to wear colour or are neutrals more your style?

Move Aside Pom Poms and Tassels, Fringe is IN

Fringe is in when it comes to interiors. It’s being adorned on lampshades, cushions, throws and rugs. It’s not a new trend, because it has evolved from the 1920’s Victorian era and then remerged in the 1970’s Hippie Boho era and it has once again come round full circle as an interior trend for 2019.

If you have grandparents or parents who have kept their fringe trimmed lampshade, you can tell them it’s all the rage now.

fringe is in

I have a friend who loves reading the interior section of my blog because it’s her quick way to see what trends are in. Being a working mum, she likes reading posts that lay out what’s new in interiors without her having to search for the information.

When pom poms were in, off she went to get a pom pom throw for the bed. She recently bought a new home so this post has been written for her in mind. Never mind she has young children and fringe is probably one of the worst things to have in a family home because it may get matted and knotted. Pro tip: Keep the fringe short to avoid such incidents.

Fringe adds texture to the bedroom. Who knew I was already onto a trend with our new  bedroom linen?

Here are some budget friendly fringe homeware finds. Kmart is all over it with their fringe cushions, and for $8, they are a steal.

The Adairs cushion is actually targeted to kids, but I LOVE it. For $14.99, it’s another bargain way to add the fringe trend to your home.

How to Shop Like a Personal Stylist – Layering With a Longline Cardi

The longline cardi will be a popular knit this season. Worn as a duster, it’s a relaxed smart casual style that will take you through to winter

This post is the next in my series on how to shop like a personal stylist.

If you have your casual wardrobe sorted, then you are already partially sorted for autumn.

Swap the shorts for jeans, add a scarf and you’ve got yourself a look that can work for the weekend.

longline cardi three outfits

Mustard will still be a prevalent colour this season and it works well with denim, black, white and our favourite leopard print accessories.

Here are three outfits you can create with your longline cardi. Change the scarves for each look. If you wear a patterned tee, keep the accessories plain.

Longline cardis will be available in a range of colours and when they’re online, be ready to pounce on them as they will sell out fast.

If the ankle length is too long, look for a style that finishes at the knee.

The longline cardi is definitely one I will be embracing this autumn. I’m looking for an ankle grazer as I do have a black one from Katies that I love to wear. Just need to choose which colour will work in with my existing wardrobe…

Do you own a longline cardi? Looking forward to wearing scarves this autumn?
