A Black and White Stripe Dress Worn Two Ways

One of the most versatile dresses in my wardrobe for winter would be my long sleeved black and white stripe dress which I got for $50 on sale from City Chic last winter… or maybe it was the winter before that?

It’s proven to be a great base outfit to layer for winter. When you have a stripe base, you can layer your scarves any which way. I like to layer my black and white stripe dress with a scarf, jacket or vest. To keep my legs warm I wear black leggings (this winter they are from Target) and my favourite Jo Mercer boots.

I had a few queries about where my stripe dress was purchased from and unfortunately the style is no longer available from some of the stores that used to stock a similar style.

However, I have been able to source the same print in a few different styles if you are after this type of dress for winter.

My personal favourite is the Miracle dress because it is a flattering fit. The Daisy Street Jumper dress from ASOS is a bit too short for my liking (but it may be an option if you like the style) – and only available in a 14 and 16. I’d definitely be wearing tights under that dress.

You can follow my lead and wear your stripe dress with a leopard print scarf.

Or you can layer with a leather jacket, and add a bit of colour or a different patterned scarf for a pattern clash.

Contrary to what has often been thought, a stripe dress is flattering. Here are three dresses I’ve found online with the similar black and white stripe pattern.

ASOS Daisy Street Jumper in Stripe $28.50 (on sale)

Miracle Dress in Neutral Stripe from White Haven Emporium $74.95

Do you have a black and white stripe dress? What’s your favourite way to layer during Winter?

Winter Fashion Staples to Help You Feel Stylish and Comfortable at Home

On the 1st of June there was a significant drop in temperature in Brisbane, which means winter has finally arrived and I’m wearing more thicker layers to keep me warm. It’s time to reach for the winter fashion staples!

This week I’ve trotted out the bed socks which I got for Mother’s Day. They’ve kept my feet toastie warm when walking in the house (they have a non-slip grips on the soles so I don’t slip over on our laminate timber floors!) I’ve also got out my Peter Alexander lounge knit which I layer over my PJ’s or wear out and about during the day with jeans.

Winter Fashion Staples to Help You Feel Stylish (But Comfortable) at Home

I’ve got out my heavier knits, puffer jackets, long sleeve tees and scarves to keep me warm inside the house – and out.

Even if I spend my days at home, I like to wear pieces that are comfortable but still look good on… so if I need to head out unexpectedly, I don’t need to change.

I’m never taken by surprise when the cool weather comes around because I have all my bases covered… but maybe you need some pieces to keep you warm this winter? Stylish pieces you can layer at home that will keep you warm and comfortable? A new pair of slippers? Some bed socks? Or even a new scarf? (you can never have too many scarves!)

I’ve found some winter pieces that may be just what you need to keep you warm inside your home (and out).

  1. Betty Basics Paris Pant in Silver Marl $29.95
  2. Peter Alexander Booties $15 (on sale)
  3. Peter Alexander Teddy Gown $69 (on sale)
  4. Millers Stripe Poncho $40
  5. Peter Alexander Pastel Pom Pom Bed Socks $19 (on sale)
  6. Katies Chenille Pom Pom Scarf $29.95

What winter fashion staples do you wear when the temperature drops at home?

My Thoughts on the Kenji Comeback Soft Pants

A few weeks ago I shared how I was looking for pants that would be comfortable to wear at night when I did my late night shifts for work and that didn’t look like Pyjama pants. Hello Kenji Comeback Soft Pants.

I have had my eye on these pants since last year and once I had some money in my Paypal account, I made a pre-sale order.

I received the pants this week and I couldn’t wait to try them and show you one way of how I will wear them.

I’m loving all the high-low tops at present and recently got this Feather and Noise black top to wear with the pants.

I put this outfit together in my head before I made the purchases so I wasn’t sure if it would work when I got the pieces. But I think they do and I love it.

I don’t have black sneakers, but I do have black ankle boots. I will definitely wear the pants with my white sneakers in the future.

Here are my thoughts on the Kenji Comeback Soft Pants

1. Love the elastacised waist. I can wear these pants on my waist or hips. Generally pants like these slide up to my waist. So waist it is for me. I’m wearing the XL and I’m generally a 16-14.

2. The bagginess around the crotch area is non-existent on me because I fill that area. So it’s a slimmer fit on me.

3. Wearing the Kenji Comeback Pants with a high low black top can hide the bagginess of the pants.

4. The hem of the pants graze above the ankles so this allows for some of my leg to show. I don’t mind this but for others who are taller than me (I’m 175cm), the pants may look more peg-like and 7/8 style when worn.

5. Definitely a trans-seasonal piece to wear as they would look fab with a black tee/singlet and black slides in summer.

6. Expensive for what look to be ‘track pants’ (I paid $80 including postage – I used a discount code by signing up to a newsletter), but I’m hoping the cost per wear will make them worth the money I spent on them.

Mind the crooked necklace.

There were mixed thoughts about these pants when I first mentioned them on the blog and I totally understand the reasons. But for me, I’m happy with the fit.

You can get these pants from

What do you think? Are these pants something you’d consider adding to cart? Bought any soft pants recently that I should know about?

I Got a New Stud Earring Holder

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you will know I LOVE wearing statement earrings.

If they have pom poms, tassels or a mixture of both, I will wear them. I also enjoy wearing stud earrings too and have quite the collection of those. In fact, the collection was starting to annoy me because I didn’t have anywhere for them to go, and I really wanted something that would allow me to hang them up off our dresser.

So I went onto Etsy and found these fabulous stud earring holder storage boards. I purchased one last week and it came in the mail yesterday.

Bon Maxie have created a number of these holders which come with the board and easel. You can also purchase a hanging one if you prefer this style.

This was my dresser before. It was messy and a bit of an eyesore to look at and needed a dust.

And this is what it looks like now.

This particular stud earring holder was $39.

I love that I can now see what stud earrings I have. I can also hang the dangling ones that are attached with a stud, not a hook. I need to go through my other jewellery organisers and add these studs onto the holder. I find, if my earrings are hidden away, I don’t always wear them and I may even forget I have them. This stud holder makes it easy to see what I have and what will go with my outfit.

You can hook your earrings into this as well, but I already had my other jewellery holder for my hook earrings.

You can purchase the same holder here.

Do you need a stud earring holder as well? How do you organise your earrings?

Leopard Print Scarves Under $50

Every winter I will add a new scarf to my wardrobe. I have acquired quite the collection over the years. If I were to choose my favourite scarf from my collection of scarves, it would be my leopard print scarf. Leopard print scarves can elevate a winter outfit simultaneously for little effort and cost.

Some would argue leopard print is a neutral. I say it’s a neutral print that can go with a lot of what you may already own in your wardrobe. A scarf is also a budget friendly way to update your wardrobe.

You may have noticed there have been a lot of leopard print tops, dresses and even pants offered this winter. A scarf is a great way to jump on a trend, if the budget is tight and you’re concerned about whether you’d only wear the item for a season while it’s ‘in’. (Generally I wear most of my clothes whether they are trending or not.)

I’ve got two leopard print scarves. One has grey tones and is a thicker scarf for when it’s really cold, the other is one I bought last year from Witchery.

leopard print scarves

My favourite way to wear my leopard print scarf is with a black dress. I’ve also worn it over a striped top and with other colours that aren’t part of the print in the scarf.

Whenever you see a leopard print scarf that you love, pounce on it (pardon the pun) because these scarves tend to sell out as soon as they hit the stores. My collection of leopard print scarves that I wanted to share with you today diminished because they have sold out since Monday.

The leopard print scarves that you may see in store or online below may have a white, grey and/or blush pink tone as part of the scarf. The busyness of the print can vary from scarf to scarf too. If I could, I’d have one of each! My favourite is the classic typical tones of a standard leopard print (black, white and caramel). But again, these can be hard to come by. When you see it, and if it fits your budget, get it.

My favourite leopard print scarf would be this one from Frankie and Co, but it is sold out.
