The Colour I Love to Wear Most

What colour do you love to wear the most? For me, it’s red. Thankfully it’s a colour that suits me. Whenever I’m looking for a new piece or want to add colour to a monochromatic outfit, I will add red.

So when I was researching some outfit ideas for the recent corporate post I wrote, I came across this dress from City Chic that had been reduced to $50. I ignored the pulse to buy the dress instantly.

But as the time went (24 hours), I knew I had to make a decision to purchase it because it would be gone if I didn’t make a decision soon.

To help me make my decision, I headed to my local City Chic store to try on a dress in the same shape, but in a different colour. It confirmed two things:

What size I needed to buy and that I needed to buy that dress. So I went online and added dress to cart.

I wore it yesterday and the compliments flowed from my girls, who said I looked like a teacher, to the mums at school drop off, with one yelling from across the car park ‘cute dress Bec’.

My mum loved the dress on me, and I got comments from the ladies at the optometrist, who were surprised to learn it was a dress, not a top and skirt.

The fab thing about this dress is it has POCKETS and CAPPED sleeves, which is a style that can be so hard to come by these days.

I’m wearing the XS.

If you love the dress, you can get one here. Only Small and Medium are left.

Now, let’s see what my dad thinks of this one. 😉

Ever withheld buying a dress that you loved at first site? Clearly I’m doing well with my shop from my wardrobe intention for 2018. What colour do you love to wear most?

This Boho Maxi Dress Will Take You Through from Summer to Autumn

What a cool change today has been after the hot and muggy days we’ve had in the last week here in Brisbane. It’s reminded me how much I enjoy the temperatures between summer and winter and winter and summer. With the change in weather, I want to bring your attention to this gorgeous boho maxi dress. It’s a new dress that is literally hot off the press. So hot off the press, I was the first person to know about it.

I’m loving a maxi dress with sleeves. I have two in my wardrobe that I love. And I now have three. I could not resist the print of this dress. As soon as I saw it, I knew it had to be mine.

And mine it is, and yours it can be too if you love it as much as I do.

The Boho Aubrey Dress from Wardrobe 22 is STUNNING. It’s the perfect dress to wear during summer and during the in between seasons when the weather starts to cool. I will be teaming this dress with a denim jacket when it becomes cooler, because the denim contrasts lovely with the pink and navy print of the dress.

I find this style of maxi dress very flattering on me. I’m quite curvy and like a dress that skims over the curves and camouflages the hip dips that are a natural part of our bodies as women.

I have the Boho Pippa Maxi, which I love to wear too.

Another great thing about these dresses is they can be worn during maternity. They have buttons at the bust and the empire line is perfect to skim over bumps. Just putting that out there if anyone is looking for a dress that allows for easy breastfeeding in the future. Not likely me AT ALL (been there, done that). But having been in the situation of looking for clothes that weren’t labelled maternity, and could be worn beyond – well this dress would tick all those boxes.

I’m debuting this dress this afternoon with a catch up with some local bloggers whom I always seem to say ‘Let’s catch up’ and the only times we ever do, is usually during a blogging event. I want to change that.

Another dress that has been released for sale on the Wardrobe 22 site is this Boho Parker Dress. This is a cute print with a zip front and tie string waist. It also has pockets, which for many of you is important.

I honestly didn’t think I needed any more clothes until I met the Boho Aubrey dress.

The Palm and Leaf Prints Aren’t Going Anywhere – Here’s How to Wear Them This Summer

One print that I seem to see everywhere at the moment is the palm leaf print or tropical leaf print. I’ve seen it in homewares and in dresses and tops. I jumped onboard the leaf print train two years ago when it was a popular choice for cushions. But it’s become a trending print for tops and dresses.

I think the reason it’s so popular is because it’s bright and fun and it reminds us of the tropics and holidays. It’s the perfect print to wear for summer, and if you haven’t jumped on this print wagon, I thought I’d share two pieces that I got from Wardrobe 22. The larger sizes have sold out, but you can enquire to see if more stock will come in.

The first piece that I have seen on a few other bloggers and fashionistas on Instagram is this Boho Palm Dress.

It can be worn off the shoulder or on. The dress has pockets and it has a great hem length – just above the knee for me.

The print alone is bold and bright, so it doesn’t need too much colour in the way of accessories (but I’m totally doing this soon to show you how to accessorise this dress to create different looks). I paired my dress back with tan tassel earrings from SHF Designs, another local Brisbane boutique store, and added my tan shoes.

The next leafy print top is by Label of Love. It’s also a top that can be worn on or off the shoulder. I teamed this top with white pants, and added a coral tassel earring for some extra colour.

This top is so versatile as it can be worn with jeans, white pants, a denim skirt or even denim shorts. I have apricot coloured cargo pants from Country Road that will match perfectly with the top as well.

Whenever I select a new piece, it has to mix in with the pieces in my wardrobe. I know this top can go with many items I already own in my wardrobe, and you may find you will be able to do the same.

This flutter top will be fabulous worn into Autumn, as the 3/4 sleeve length is great for the cooler months. I also find it good for summer to protect my arms from the sun.

So tell me, have you got any leafy print clothes in your wardrobe? What prints are you loving this summer?

Disclosure: I was gifted the Label of Love Flutter Tropical Top, and purchased the Boho Palm Dress on a discount.

How to Stick to Your Fashion Intentions for 2018

The start of the year is always a good prompt to reflect on where you’re at in life and make plans to change things you’re not satisfied with. One area of our lives that may seem superficial to reflect on is the state of our wardrobes. And I don’t mean how organised they are and what they look like (although this is helpful so you can find things when you need them). I’m talking about having a wardrobe that serves the purposes of your life. Whether it’s having clothes for all occasions or creating a capsule wardrobe so you have less clothes or acquiring new brands that you love but may not be able to afford.

Fashion Intentions – Some Ideas to Create Your Own

I think everyone should have a fashion intention they can focus on throughout the year.

Some examples are:

Only buy new clothes from Op Shops

No new clothes for the year

Create a collection of designer pieces

Buy investment pieces that will last more than a year

Create a capsule wardrobe

Declutter your wardrobe

Book a one-on-one session with a stylist to develop your style

Do courses or read blogs to discover or evolve your style

Only buy Australian made clothes

Only buy ethically made clothes

Not buying clothes over the price of $100

Set up a fashion splurge account

Work on body confidence and wear bolder pieces that show off your figure

And etc

There are many more intentions you may be able to think of when it comes to your personal wardrobe and fashion choices.

Maybe you may know one or two you might like to focus on during the year.

So how can you make your fashion intention a success for 2018?

To make your fashion intention a success, you need to read the right blogs and interact with these fashionistas, so you can gleam inspiration and motivation to stay on course with your intentions. Here are some fashion blogs I recommend for some of the intentions I listed above.

A huge shoutout to the fabulous team @evalynparsonssalon for once again looking after my hair. Not sure how you magically turn my very dark roots (and greys) back to blonde in a heartbeat 😝I left the salon with a creamy multitonal blonde and a sharp textured bob, courtesy of the delightful Tahlia, which I adore. From the second I walked into the salon, I was greeted with a beautiful welcome, a glass of bubbles, plus a plate of cheese and biscuits – even though they were all rushed off their feet! #mykindaoffabulous ——— Just a heads-up, the salon are recruiting, so if you know of anyone either already living on the Sunshine Coast OR maybe someone looking to relocate/move from Melbs or Syd – that may be interested, get them to email their resume. 💋💋 ——— … … … … … #hair #evalynparsonshair #blonde #ambassador #everydaystyle

Whatever your goal is, bookmark these blogs and follow these bloggers on Instagram that align with your fashion intention.

If you want to own a certain designer piece, why not do a search on Facebook for groups that share their outfits from this brand or have a swap and buy group? I am a part of the Gorman Outfit of the Day group and love seeing everyone’s outfits. One of my intentions this year is to own 1 Gorman dress. I’ve got a few more intentions, but I might share them in another post.

Do you have fashion intentions for 2018? What fashion intentions have you made in the past?

The Versatility of a Chambray Top

As promised, this year I want to share ways how to wear 1 piece of clothing more than once to ensure you are getting cost per wear, per item in your wardrobe. One item that I have been surprised at how many outfits I’ve been able to create has been the chambray top.

Chambray is a classic style that became popular a few seasons ago with the chambray shirt dress. We’ve seen the chambray jogger pants become a staple for many in their wardrobe and the chambray skirt and shirt. A chambray summer top can be teamed with a number of different bottoms to create some great smart casual outfits that look crisp and sophisticated. It also has a laidback feel, which makes it the perfect item to wear during summer and when the weather starts to get cool.

Before Christmas, my grandma bought me a chambray top from Katies. It’s no longer available, but the reason I wanted to share about it with you is because I didn’t realise how versatile this type of top is.

If you are after clothing pieces that work with your basics, then this is one top I recommend adding to your wardrobe.

What Can You Wear With a Chambray Top?

Chambray looks great with black, white, stripes and other patterns with the shade of light blue in the pattern.

It makes a great contrast with red, hot pink, baby pink, khaki, beige, latte, caramel, tan, navy and orange.

My outfits are examples of how 1 top can be worn 4 different ways.

Chambray Tops Online

If you love chambray and want to embrace it in a top, here are some pieces I’ve found online.

  2. SABA Adelene Chambray Top $129.00
  3. Missguided Denim Frill Sleeve Top $59.95

  5. Portmans Chambray River Ruffle Top $59.95
