For The Love of a Spot Print

If you love a spot print, you will love these new spotty ¾ sleeve tops from Wardrobe 22.

On a recent visit, after dropping back some clothes that I used for editorial purposes (I love brands that work with me on this.) I browsed the new pieces that had come in, and of course, I was quite taken by the spot print tops in navy blue and grey.

I have four sleeve lengths in my wardrobe:

No sleeve and short sleeve for summer – or layered in winter.

¾ sleeve for in between seasons – or layered in winter.

Long sleeve – usually always for winter.

I don’t have very many ¾ sleeve tops as I once had, until now.

When I tried the Dotty Navy top (gifted), I knew I had to own it.

I love wearing it layered over a white singlet and for a bit of extra warmth on a Brisbane winter day, I add a red cardigan.

This Dotty Navy top is only $55 and it’s a versatile piece that can be worn with jeans or a denim skirt. I’ve worn it at least once a week since I’ve got it.

The second spot top which has a bit of a Seed Heritage vibe about it is the Grey Boho Madrid Top $45 (I bought this one). Oh how I love wearing this top too. I have a few ivory and grey knits that have gone beautifully with this top and I love wearing the top on it’s own with jeans and white sneakers.

Lately, I have been looking for tops that require a little less fuss, and a spot print top doesn’t need a lot of accessorising. The pattern speaks for itself.

The beauty of owning these tops now is they can be worn under knits and jackets as well as on their own when the weather starts to warm up.

Both tops are available at Wardrobe 22. Check out my Instagram account to see how I layer these tops during winter.

So tell me, are you a fan of a spot print? Love a ¾ sleeve? What’s your favourite length of sleeve to wear?

How to Wear The Cat Collar Tee

If you’ve followed me on Instagram and on Facebook with my #everydaystyle journey, you would know I’m a fan of a plain t-shirt, which can be layered with a necklace (summer) or cardi and scarf (winter).

I love a t-shirt that has an interesting pattern or colour way as they can be worn on their own with no accessories. It makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier.

In Australia, we have truly felt the effects of winter, so we’re rugging up with our winter woolies and jackets to keep warm. Summer 2017 fashion is the LAST thing on our mind. But I have a t-shirt that will get a lot of wear next Summer, and we’re going to see basic t-shirts with cut outs and added extras around the neckline to add a bit of interest to a plain, block colour t-shirt.

If you’re someone that can’t stand wearing necklaces or having a scarf around your neck because it makes you feel too hot, this style of tee may be a great choice for you.

The cat collar tee, choker tee and strappy V-neck tees are some designs you may want to consider if you like your tees to have a bit of detail.

These tees can be worn now during winter, with a cardigan or jacket. Here I’m wearing my cat collar tee with a cardigan.

What appeals to me with this tee is there is no need for accessories. It looks good worn on its own.

Tobi have some great tees to choose from. I wasn’t sure if I’d like this style on me but I really like it and can see myself getting a lot of wear from the top. I’m wearing a size Large.

Winter Fashion Tips: Change it With a Cardigan and Scarf

If I had to choose a favourite knit, it would have to be the cardigan. I love cardigans because you can delayer by midday if it’s warm, and you can easily layer with a scarf as the open neckline allows the scarf to hang down naturally.

change it with a cardigan

Cardigans can come in a range of block colours, patterns and textures. I have thin knit cardigans for mild days and thick knit cardigans that can be buttoned up for when the temperature drops.

The thing about layering though is it can take up valuable time in the morning to dress. So I like to keep it simple and always have my basics on hand to create a simple layered outfit.

The base may be a pair of jeans and a white, grey or black t-shirt. Long sleeved if it’s fairly cold.

Basics are important because they are the foundation for your showpony pieces (as Nikki Parkinson would say). And the showpony pieces in this instance are the cardigan and the scarf.

Here are three ways I’ve worn the same base of a white singlet, jeans and boots, yet I’ve created 3 different looks by changing the scarf and cardigan.

In this outfit I’m wearing the Arrowheard Rust Cardigan from TOBI (gifted) with a plaid blanket scarf. This is the type of outfit I’d wear if it was really cold outside.

In the next outfit, I’ve simply changed the cardigan to this pink cardi from Dotti with a witchery scarf.

And the third outfit is another change in cardi with this black maxi cardi from Katies and a Rockmans scarf.

If I wanted too, I could have use the one scarf with each of the cardis.

Having the right basics allows for more outfits to be created. I know this style of outfit works for me and I can delayer at midday when it’s warm outside. The layers are added by the afternoon as the sun goes down and the temperature drops.

My favourite cardigans are the ones that have pockets and are roomy so layers can be worn underneath. If your cardigan is too tight, it can feel uncomfortable and will gape at the bust when done up. (writing from past experience)

I will always reach for a cardigan before a jacket when I’m at home. I find cardigans are more snuggly and a jacket is more suited for going out.

What do you reach for in winter, a cardigan or jacket? Do you like the cardigan and scarf look?

Why I’m a Fan of The Twisted Tunic

I believe clothes should be worn season after season. I’m a big believer in wearing pieces that will last a few years because it saves me time and money. In the last year or so I have opted for classic colours and patterns I know will last and keep for each season. But what often happens when I wear clothes from previous seasons, people want to know where they can get that same piece now – like the twisted tunic.

One of my favourite tops that I wear on winter days when it’s quite warm outside is this twisted tunic from Empress Eleven.

I was gifted this top last winter and I have had so many people comment on how nice it is and how they would like to purchase their own. I love it too. Unfortunately it’s no longer available from this brand, but I have found another online store that does a similar style of top and it comes in a number of different colours. I think I love the style of this top more because it’s longer at the back.

Wearing TOBI GET IT TWISTED TUNIC TOP in PLUM

TOBI has the Get It Twisted Tunic Top in Plum, which is what I’m wearing, and it comes in four other different colours: black, grey, ivory and cream.

I love the plum because it’s a rich colour that can be dressed up or down. In these photos, I’ve opted to wear it dressed down.

If I was to dress it up I would change the distressed jeans to black skinny jeans and high heels.

I love these twisted tunic tops for a few reasons:

1. They can be easily layered over a simple jeans and white singlet top outfit.

2. They are trans-seasonal – so work well for when the weather is mild – perfect for Autumn and Spring or warm winter days we’re currently experiencing in Brisbane.

3. They’re flattering. That twist and the drape of the fabric is flattering. Any lumps or bumps on the front and side are camouflaged with the drape of the twist.

I’m wearing a large in this top which fits a size 14 – 16.

If you love this top like I do, TOBI are offering free shipping to Australia, with no minimum spend.

The plum tunic is currently 60% off – priced at $31.71 which is a bargain, especially when free shipping is involved.

I can’t wait to share more pieces from TOBI in the future, but I’m glad I could find a top alternative for those that love my grey twisted top.

Are you a fan of tops that can be layered? Which colour twisted tunic would you choose?

What I Reach for When I’m Not Fussed About What I Wear

There are days where I don’t have the energy or time to fuss about with my outfits. I know I could choose my outfit the night before (and if I have an event, I will do this) or I could plan my outfits for the week (I only do this when I pack to go away). But I’m not always that organised and will leave it till after I’ve showered to work out what I’m going to wear for the day.

On winter days where I’m more interested in keeping warm, these are the things I reach for these outfits. I know they work together and I think it’s important to have one or two outfits you can grab to put on, knowing they work together.

What I reach for when I’m not fussed about what I wear

I’m going to share with you two outfits I reach for and why they work every time.

1. Stripes.

stripe dress what to wear when not fussed

Whether it’s jeans and a long sleeve stripe top or a striped tee dress, stripes never let me down. A pattern and basic or block colour always works together. This type of outfit can be easily layered with a cardigan, vest or leather jacket over the top.

2. Miracle Dress and Scarf.

My miracle dresses have taken away the overwhelm of working out what to wear when heading out for dinner or somewhere that requires dressier attire. Add a scarf and leather jacket, layered with leggings, and you’re good to go.

miracle dress and a scarf

I would say these pieces are my favourite clothes to wear in my wardrobe. I suggest having a few winter outfits ready for when you’re not fussed about what you wear. I like to try and make new outfits each day with the clothes I own, but I have moments where I’m uninspired or I have a lot on my plate and choosing what to wear is not something I want to add to it.

To create your own outfits, select pieces you love to wear and can be layered for when the weather turns cool.

Have a collection of scarves that can add more interest to these outfits. A scarf can change an outfit instantaneously.

I’ve put together two outfits, using pieces I would use to create the above outfits. These piecea are available online should you wish to imitate my outfits.
