Fashion Accessory Gifts under $60

I love fashion accessory gifts. I like buying them and receiving them because they are the type of present that will fit within a tight budget, and I love receiving them because I can never have enough accessories.

I put together a collage of fashion accessory gifts under $60. It was going to be for under $50, but I really like the bracelet from Bohemian Traders and I had to include it.

The key to buying fashion accessories for someone is to watch what they wear and buy something that will suit their taste. No point buying a pink necklace because you like it. Their preferred colour may be blue.

I also find that fashion accessories are a great gift to give during the year for Birthdays.

I’ve taken into account trends for this season, so hopefully you may get some inspiration from my ideas.

Boho Australia Mint Aztec Knot Maxi Dress Giveaway

I did say I would find another dress to giveaway on the blog and Christmas is the perfect time to hold another giveaway. I always indulge myself by buying a dress or two for Christmas.

One of the most liked dresses on my instagram feed is this Maxi Kaftan dress from Boho Australia. I decided to give one away on my blog too. 🙂

Bec in Boho Australia Dress

It’s a one size fits all type dress that will fit a size 8 – 18. You will need to wear a slip underneath it or your togs. The sleeves have open slits which make it very cool to wear in Summer. You can also breastfeed in this dress as there is enough drape in the fabric to pull the V-neck down for boobie access.

I’m wearing the pink pattern of this maxi kaftan dress, but I’m giving away the mint colour which I think would look stunning to wear at any type of do on Christmas day.

#shopwhatyougot Challenge – last 10 days of outfits

Sunday saw the last of my capsule wardrobe for the month of November. If you want to see what outfits I wore in the first 20 days, head here and here.

I had to allow for a trip to Melbourne when organizing myself for the challenge. I actually found it quite easy to work out what clothes to put in my capsule wardrobe. Some days I wore the same outfit because I didn’t have time to think about putting an outfit together. I also took the challenge in a different light by choosing clothes ten days at a time.

This challenge proves that a capsule wardrobe can work for any of us if you have the right pieces in the wardrobe in the first place. You will see some double ups of outfits from previous weeks because I didn’t get my photo taken on those days.

Here is what I wore for the last 10 days of the challenge.

I ended up adding 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of chambray pants, a black tank top, a cape, my black jumpsuit and a glitter bolero.

I also wore four pairs of shoes throughout the whole time of this challenge.

In total I ended up wearing 30 items including shoes, not accessories.

Here is the list of my capsule wardrobe:

Sass & Bide Pineapple Tee

Bohemian Traders Navy Stripe Tee

Kmart Black Nursing Tee

Myer Resort wear Black Zip Front Tank

Target Black Nursing Tee

If you took part in #shopwhatyougot challenge, how did you go? Who’s keen to give it a go next year?

Wearing the same cocktail outfit TWICE

When I got the official invite to the Kidspot Voices of 2014 Gala Cocktail event, I was excited. I wanted to go because my other blog, The Plumbette, had made the top 30 in the Personal and Parenting category and I wanted to celebrate that achievement by attending the Gala event.

After resurrecting my styling blog, I knew readers would be interested in what I would wear to the event. I wondered Should I approach brands to dress me for the occasion? Do I go and purchase something new? I did neither.

Instead I chose to wear the same outfit I wore to the Annie Sloan Cocktail party back in August and hoped no one would remember. There were only a handful of bloggers that would have been at both events to have remembered anyway.

What got me worried about my decision to wear the same outfit was reading the status of another fashion blogger the gorgeous Sonia from Sonia Styling revealing she was being fitted for her outfit. But then the lovely Rebecca from Seeing the lighter side of Parenting revealed her dress in a blog post a week before the event and that calmed my outfit anxiety because her Wayne Cooper Dress was in the same alignment as my outfit.

I decided to wear my black jumpsuit from Millers with the borrowed bolero jacket from my mum that is apparently from Maggie T.

O

I upped the anti with the jewellery wearing Oroton Chandelier earrings and a crystal necklace and bracelet. My silver mesh clutch completed the look. My shoes were Easy Steps black wedges.

I met up with Kirsten from Kirsten and Co as we cabbed together and she also wore a jumpsuit to the event. Her jumpsuit is from Autograph. It’s like Jumpsuits are the trend for the season! (Which you knew anyway because I wrote about them in August. :))

O

I got Jacob to take photos of us before we got into our taxi. I was a bit envious of Kirsten’s updo. It looked fabulous.

When Kirsten and I arrived, the red carpet was rolled out, there was a random voice talking in the background which I then understood to be one of the Ford cars. It was easy to skim across the room to find recognizable faces. Everyone was dressed superbly for the occasion.

I got my make-up done at the Benefit bar in Myer. I watched a make-up demonstration by Rachel from Redcliffe Style last week and she used Benefit mascara. I saw the Benefit bar adjacent the lifts in Myer while Jacob and I waited to go up to Level 6 to view the Melbourne Giftorium late Friday afternoon.  It was a spur of the moment decision to get my make-up done, but I’m so glad I did… because I didn’t expect to get my photos taken.

O

O

It was a fantastic night. It was made even better by winning two of the sponsor challenges. The announcements were so unexpected. I actually get goosebumps writing about them now. To read more about who won what, head here.

I’m glad I wore what I did at the awards. As soon as I got back to the hotel room, I was on the bed feeding Phoebe.

I’ve always been one to buy a new outfit to a new event or occasion, but clothes need to be worn more than once – even the special occasion clothes. Wearing the same cocktail outfit twice didn’t hurt my bank account or my reputation.

Are you prone to buying a new outfit every time you go to a new event? Do you have a go to outfit when going to cocktail parties?

The best shorts for when you’re feeling frumpy

I love wearing shorts during summer, but since having my third baby and still carrying extra weight, my legs from my knees up aren’t very toned.

I also have a little bit of a belly that needs extra support to bring it into line.

The best shorts for when you’re feeling frumpy, that I have found, are *Katies Capri Ultimate Pants. On me they sit just over my knee covering the part of my legs that are untoned. They also suck in my tummy and don’t create a muffin top.

Best Shorts for frumpyI loved these Capri pants so much, I bought two pairs of Jeans in the Ultimate range.

The best thing about wearing a capri is that you can wear them with Kaftans and tunics that are a bit too short to be worn on their own. This is what I have done with my Boho Australia Kaftan.

For this summer I chose light denim and white. I’m wearing the size 14. With these pants you will want to go down a size that you currently are because they do stretch.

Do you like to wear shorts in Summer? Have you found the perfect pair of shorts? Share the details if you have.
