Every woman should own a white shirt

Every woman should own a white shirt. It’s one of the staples or basics of any wardrobe.

I bought my shirt from Ollie & Max last year after I had Magdalene. I realized I didn’t own a white shirt and that I was missing a vital basic from my wardrobe.

White shirts look great with nearly everything and anything. They can be dressed up or down. They are a great to wear when breastfeeding because any spilled milk camouflages into the colour of the shirt. Here are some current styles that would suit this season.

White Shirts Spring 20142

1. Ollie & Max Shirt $89.95

2. Witchery Stretch Silk Shirt $149.95

3. Bohemian Traders Ruffle Hem Blouse $129.00

The key to finding a good white shirt is good tailoring, sleeves that have the ability to be rolled up and not too see through. The transparency part doesn’t bother me too much because I usually wear a white cami underneath, and in this case below I have worn a white maternity singlet so that I can breastfeed Phoebe.

In this outfit I’m wearing my white Ollie & Max Shirt, a maxi skirt from Big W and an Adorne beaded necklace.  White sandals are from Novo last season.

I bought the skirt as a transition skirt post-pregnancy because sometimes I don’t want to keep wearing my maternity clothes.

Breastfeeding Friendly Outfits for a Wedding

Breastfeeding can make pulling an outfit together quite difficult when it’s a special occasion like a wedding.

I would frustratingly look high and low in retail shops for dresses that crossed over at the bust, zipped up or buttoned up when I was breastfeeding my babes.

When I had Esther, we all attended our first wedding together 4 weeks after her birth.

I headed to Myer to find a dress that could give me easy access to my boobs. I eventually found a Howard Showers frock that zipped up at the front and had a gorgeous frill detail along the zip. I still have that dress in case I have to wear it again now that we’ve had Phoebe.

The key to finding a breastfeeding dress is to look for dresses that stretch and cross over at the bust line. Zips and Buttons do well as long as they open enough for access.

I have put together some dresses and a jumpsuit that are breastfeeding friendly outfits for a wedding.

5. Birdsnest Y 3/4 Cross over dress $89.95

Monochrome Trend for Spring 2015

The monochrome trend for Spring 2015 is one that everyone can easily add to their existing wardrobes. A black tee and some white and black patterned pants, a white shirt with black pants and a monochrome scarf, or a black jumpsuit with a white blazer are all outfits that embrace the monochrome trend and can be easily incorporated into your wardrobe. Black and white are classic colours. You will grab them time and time again.

I love monochrome because it can be accessorized with one other colour and it doesn’t require a lot of effort when putting an outfit together. I’ve compiled some items that are currently available in monochrome.

Monochrome Trend Spring 2015

1. Freez Fate Whirlwind Maxi $79*

2. Katies Graphic Zip Zag Skirt $39.95*

3. Katies Button Up Diamond Shirt $39.95*

4. Witchery Amber Sandal $129.95

5. Witchery Pippa Wedge $99.95

6. Freez Sass Black Diamond Pant $59*

Monochrome is one of my go to outfit choices because it works every time. I love adding red or orange to my monochrome ensemble, like I did when I went to Problogger Conference.

How to turn a scarf into a kimono

I love the new capes and kimonos that have come out this season. I’m trying not to go shopping though, so I thought about how I can get more wear out of my scarves this Summer. Three years ago I was shown how to turn a scarf into a vest. I was so impressed.

What if I told you that you can also create a kimono out of a scarf? I know I’ve said before that kimono’s don’t suit me… but this scarf one drapes in the right places for me and it works.

Kimono Outfit1

The same method applies by folding the scarf in half – but you need to fold it lengthways so it becomes thinner in width.

With the fold at the bottom and the opening ends at the top, tie together each open corner end of the folded scarf.

You should have two holes at each end and your kimono is created when you put your arms through the holes. I have put together a photo collage with step by step instructions to make your kimono.

The best scarves to use for this is are floaty, chiffon scarves. Square or rectangle can work easily, but the more material or the bigger the scarf, the better and bigger your kimono will be.

Kimonos are a big trend this Summer. If you’re on a tight budget and can’t afford to add one to your wardrobe, try this trick with an existing scarf. If you have a few scarves, you will have a few kimonos to wear this season. What trend are you game to try this Spring? I’m linking up with Essentially Jess for IBOT.

Dreaming about the Dreamer Dress – Bohemian Traders

When the new stock for Bohemian Traders was released online, I couldn’t wait to have a look. A lot of the styles accommodate mummy tummies and easy access for breastfeeding.

I fell in love with this dress, the Dreamer Dress in Cream.

Dreamer Dress in Cream

I looked at the price and knew that with our tight budget, I couldn’t afford to buy the dress straight away. Anything over $100, I usually walk away and think about the purchase and whether I need it or not. I couldn’t stop dreaming about the Dreamer dress.

When I had some unexpected funds come in, I purchased the dress.  I was happy with my purchase and I know that I will get a lot of wear out of it during this season of my life and beyond.

The first way I styled this dress was with a pair of leopard print leggings, loafers and a dangly pendant necklace.

The second way was incorporating a belt to create an empire line and my beaded sandals that I bought two summers ago from Betts. I added a scarf and some leggings because the dress is a bit too short for me without something underneath.

I was a bit worried that the colour of the dress would wash me out but it hasn’t. The Dreamer dress comes in black as well and retails for $139 online.

What do you do when you fall in love with a piece of clothing and can’t afford it?
