My Spring Wish List Heading Into Summer

Do you keep a spring wish list of items you’d love to add to cart… but you just can’t yet cause you’re waiting to save the money up or you really need to use that money to buy groceries instead of clothes? I hear ya! Welcome to my blog. Haha!

I’m often creating posts for this blog (and others) and the temptation to add all the things to cart that I love at first sight is all too real. But I’ve learned to be disciplined. To wait to have the right amount to pay for it or make peace when it sells out and let it go.

I sometimes will also wait for a sale. I have had sale regret though when the item has sold out and I’ve really REALLY wanted the piece.

It’s been proven time and time again, I will find something else that takes my fancy and it may be a better time to purchase then. I do need to remind myself of this though.

Even though I’m not in a position to buy all these pieces right now, I thought I’d share with you my spring wish list. I think I write a similar post each spring!

I can see myself wearing these pieces into summer and beyond – well not the pillow cases. I think they’re an affordable way to update the bedroom with our existing linen.

Spring Colour Trend: Mustard Fashion

Mustard has been trending in interiors and fashion for a good year at least. it’s been grouped with the earthy colours like rust, terracotta and beige.

I wasn’t on board the mustard fashion trend until I tried on this top.

I also invested in a mustard cardigan to add colour to my black and white outfits.

How to Wear Mustard Fashion

Like any colour trend, you can block colour it or interweave the colour with other patterns and colours.

The best colours that work well with mustard are navy, white, coral pink, khaki, burgandy, black and grey.

You could wear a white shirt and jeans and add a mustard neck tie, or wear a block colour mustard dress and add a navy and white scarf. Finish the look with white sneakers.

Here are some mustard fashion pieces I’ve found online.

1. Label of Love Heidi Border Print Top in Tan $55

2. Freez Pocket Dress in Mustard $49

3. Sportsgirl Mustard Mini Floral Frankie Hair Tie $14.95

4. Tree of Life Mandy Dress $65

5. Ebb and Ive Lavaux Bell Sleeve Top $34.95

6. Le Brera Sunglasses $59.99

7. Zoda Circle Earrings $17.95

If wearing a block of mustard is not really your style, try it in a pattern form like this dress from Gorman or this paisley patterned scarf from Sportsgirl. Both give a hint of mustard without it being too overwhelming.

Boho Lace Dresses for Spring

I don’t know why I have developed this obsession, but I am loving all the boho white lace dresses popping up for Spring.

If you thought these dresses were more suited to a boho bride or casual style wedding you’re right. But they are also being worn as everyday attire and I can’t help but admire the gorgeous designs.

White and lace may not appeal to you – especially if you are prone to dropping food or have kids that like pull on your arm (like I do). And yet, even if they aren’t functional for how I’d interpret everyday style, I still like them all the same.

Here are some of the Boho Lace Dresses I’ve come across my online travels, for spring.

1. Salty Crush Bungalow Maxi Dress (only available in S) $120

How to incorporate this trend into your existing wardrobe

You could just buy the dress and jump head first into this trend, or you could dip your toe by investing in a key piece you will wear now and into the future.

Some pieces could be a lace cape, a lace blouse or a cotton and lace midi dress – ideal for summer and as a beach cover up.

Broderie Anglaise is also another popular choice if lace is too delicate and you want a firmer feel to the fabric.

Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking!

This quote, made famous from my favourite movie, The Devil Wears Prada, is one that pops into my head the moment I see floral pieces filter into my inbox from fashion newsletters. Florals for Spring? Groundbreaking. Ha! I even have Meryl Streep’s voice say it in my head.

But florals do make a revolving resurgence on the back end of winter and this year is no different with a vintage floral being the choice of print.

I love florals… but in small measure. And before you hit the shops to find all the floral pieces, look in your wardrobe and see what you own already that ticks this trend.

I have this red floral maxi dress bought last summer from Swiish which I put on today as it has a soft floral and paisley pattern which matches well with this trend.

florals for spring dress

Stylefast has had a number of floral print pieces over the past few weeks which are affordable, but popular as many of the sizes have sold out.

I’ve put together a collection of floral pieces to work in with your existing wardrobe.

1. Bohemian Traders Coco Wrap Skirt in Blossom Days $169.96

2. Corfu Floral Floaty Top $55

3. Adorne Bordered Floral Faux Silk Square Scarf $19.95

4. Spell Designs Dahlia Gown in Purple Haze $329 (10% of sales of this dress go to Bravehearts)

5. Eb and Ive Panzi Scarf $19.95

6. Flower Stud Earrings in yellow floral $9

7. Spell Designs Posy Crossover One Piece $90 (on sale)

8. Naudic Majestic Maxi Dress $189.95

A floral blouse and jeans is a fabulous trans-seasonal outfit which can work in spring. It also toughens the floral up if you prefer to look more chic than little house on the prairie.

A floral necktie can also work well with a plain white t-shirt or block dress. Add sneakers to give it a modern sporty look.

A simple button earring can introduce florals to your outfit. It’s an affordable way to jump on the trend.

Why Cardigans are my Favourite Knit to Wear

I recently bought some new cardigans to add to my wardrobe for winter.

i love cardigans

On a few cool days last week, I was wishing for a thick knit to snuggle into.

But thick knits don’t get much of a wear in a Brisbane winter. I tend to stick with jackets and cardigans which can be layered on and off as the temperature changes throughout the day.

And so, instead of looking for jumpers, I started to look for a few more cardigans to layer over my Gorman t-shirts.

I tend to buy block colour knit cardigans because they go well with patterned tops I already own.

Here are a few of the patterned cardigans I came across in my online search.

1. Katies Long Sleeve Textured Block Cardigan $30 (on sale)

2. Gorman Oscar Cardigan $159.20 (on sale)

3. Katies Block Cardigan $40 (on sale)

4. Elm In Transit Cardi $119

5. Gordon Smith Colour Block Cardi $109

6. Gorman Tetris Effect Cardigan $119.20

I found Dotti to be the best value for money for cardigans and their sale was too hard to refuse. I went into store and was surprised at how roomy these cardigans were. They are an oversized, oversized fit. I walked away with a medium, but I could have got a small.

I purchased a red and mustard cardigan in the same style, as I knew it would work with many tops in my wardrobe. I also know from experience, mustard is a fast seller.

Some reasons why I love cardigans:

• They can be layered on and off throughout winter
• They are a trans-seasonal knit
• Can work with jeans and top, skirt and top or dress outfits.
• You can have a few to create different outfits, with the same base outfit underneath
• Can layer with a scarf easily
• Can cover your bum and keep it warm

Are you a fan of the cardigan? Or do you prefer jumpers instead?
