Get Fitted For a New Bra at Home With Intimo

When I went to Brisbane Fashion Weekend a month or so ago, I didn’t expect to be fitted for a new bra.

But I was.

I walked past the Intimo display and I was told I could get a bra fitting there and then. Rachel Tuitupou and Carys Martin encouraged me to take my clothes off (behind a curtain of course!) and measure my bosoms. I told them I was wearing a barely-doing-much-justice strapless bra from a local department store that wasn’t doing me any favours. They told me they had seen it all before.

I had been desperate for a new strapless bra to wear under all my off the shoulder dresses and tops.

I was also after some new undie and bra sets to replace my daggy maternity bras, which I’ve lived in for the past 5 or so years.

Earlier this year I had gone to a bra shop to get fitted and they housed very limited styles in my size. I remember spending one full Thursday night, late night shopping for bras and coming home with 2 that just fit but no undies to match.

Back to my Intimo experience, I got fitted and found out my size and ordered a strapless bra and t-shirt bra to get me through.

The bras are so comfortable and are a perfect fit for me.

Whenever I’ve heard of Intimo, I’ve immediately thought party planning for bras. Party plan type businesses don’t really do much for me. There is always an underlying requisite to buy something and after experiencing a tight budget myself, I don’t like to put that type of pressure on others.

But some consultants don’t run their Intimo business like that. Rachel Tuitupou drives around the southside of Brisbane offering bra fittings in the comfort of your home. Once you know your size, it’s a matter of choosing which patterned bra you like and adding sets as you require or fancy them.

This can also be a great way for your husband to buy you lingerie. He may not know your size, but your consultant will and all your hubby has to do is flip through a brochure and choose what he likes, knowing the consultant will order the right size.

It’s definitely my preferred way to shop for underwear. I’ve been making improvements in this area to add a bit of spice to my marriage.

It’s also fun to wear something a bit nicer than plane jane underwear.

If you want to get fitted for a bra, get in contact with Rachel. She’s professional and gorgeous and will make you feel at ease as you get your fitting. She will help you get the right fitting bra for you. Having good support is important in underwear as it can change how an outfit looks. The right support and ‘lift’ can do wonders.

Do you hate bra shopping? Do you find it hard to shop for bras?

Feel Confident in Swimwear With Sirens

I’ve admitted on the blog before that I really don’t like swimwear shopping. I don’t think a lot of women do enjoy shopping for swimwear.

Like underwear, you have to find the right fit and shape for your body. It can also be super time consuming to find a flattering costume.

When Sirens asked me if I would like to review their Try 5 at Home service again, I said yes. I had had such a great experience the year before. And I did need another swimsuit. Not because the one I got last year needed replacing, but simply because it’s always good to have a spare suit for when one suit is too damp to put on from previous use.

After reading this post by Jenny from Styling Curvy, I decided to boldly order some bikinis, tankinis and suits that were different in shape from the ones I tried last year. I even went down a size as my shape has changed this year after losing a little bit of weight.

My swimwear came beautifully presented in a box.

I tried each suit on and NONE of them suited me.

What to do, what to do? The point of doing the review was having at least ONE swimsuit suit me to keep.

I emailed Emma from Sirens with my dilemma and she told me to send everything back and when she received my returns, she would call me and go through the styles online which she thought would suit my shape.

Sirens encourage women to call them if they need help choosing a swimsuit online. They know the fit and what shapes their swimwear suits.

Emma promptly called me when she received my parcel and we went through the swimsuits online, working out which ones would suit me better.

When the second box arrived, I loved my new choices. It was a tie between a tankini and the Greta Ruffle Cocktail Black & White Spot, one-shouldered swimsuit.  I decided to go with the polka dot suit because I can’t get enough of spots and I felt it suited me the best.

For $199, you too can try 5 swimsuits in the comfort of your own home. If you don’t like any of the suits, you can get a full refund, or talk to the staff on the phone to organise delivery of different suits that might suit you. All shipping costs are included.

The last time I wrote about Sirens, I had one friend say she’d never pay $199 for a swimsuit. I understand everyone has different budgets. But what I’ve learned over the years with swimwear is you really do get what you pay for. Some cheaper suits don’t make it past one summer. My first Sirens suits looks as new as the day I got it and it hasn’t lost it’s shape.

I also think it’s important to support a local Australian business when we can.

With that said, I love the prints that Sirens offers. I’m not a fan of showing off my legs in swimwear, but I’m prepared to bare my pale, wobbly legs with Sirens.

Special Promotion just for Styled by Bec readers: Sirens have offered Styled by Bec readers a special discount to Try 5 at Home for $149 instead of $199. Just use this code styledbybec149 to get your discount. The code is only valid until 21st December 2016.

With summer holidays approaching, now is the time to get swimwear ready.

Do you find it hard to find swimwear that suits your shape? Where do you usually buy your swimsuits from?

Make You Own Pom Pom Sandals

I’m loving all the pom pom details on bags, clothes and jewellery at the moment.

I was adamant about getting some pom pom sandals, but when I wrote this post and Robyna from Mummy and the Minx commented on being tempted to make her own pom pom sandals, I thought… I should do that!

I headed to Spotlight to get some pom pom trimming and craft glue suitable for leather and fabric.

I also went to Spendless Shoes and bought a pair of brown sandals.

In all, the cost of making the shoes came to around $35 and just a bit of time to put them together.

This little project would make a great school holiday project for a teen. Or just for yourself if you love pom poms like I do.

Wide Brim Hats For Summer 2016

I’m not really a hat person.

I’m definitely not a fan of hat hair or the matted-hair-sweaty look that often comes with wearing a hat.

But after my dad got skin cancers cut out the top of his head and having a family history of skin cancer, hats are a must wear when outside in the sun.

I have a fedora which adds style to all my outfits and gives a good amount of coverage, but I have been wanting to find a wide brim hat to give more shade and protection.

I found a hat at SEED Heritage that I loved but the price wasn’t within my budget.

It wasn’t until I walked by the hat range in Kmart that I saw this geometric wide brim hat for $12 and I knew it was just what I was after.

I really don’t like  too much flop in my hats as they don’t have much hold because the brim tends to flop over my face making it hard to see. I like the brims of my hats to have a bit of stiffness so they don’t flop. And if they do flop, they need to be bent so they don’t flop at eye level.

A wide brim hat is definitely a must have accessory all year round.

Here are some I found online, ranging in price from $12 to $75.

Can’t Get Enough of Adrift Dresses For Summer 2016

I’ve recently had a cull of my dresses from my wardrobe. There were many dresses that I was during pregnancy and post birth that I had been holding on to wear this summer. But after trying them on, I found they were too big or were quite worn and had seen better days.

My wish list has included new dresses. Dresses that I can wear for smart-casual occasions or even church. Dresses are my go-to outfit of choice for summer. I also have a number of functions coming up that require a dress.

On Friday night I was looking forward to heading to the city to catch up with Jenny from Styling Curvy. Jenny is an initiator. Despite living in Adelaide, when she’s in QLD she organizes a catch up. And going to UP on Constance was a little fancy for this stay-at-home mum. Although lately I feel like I’ve attended many functions, without kids. I’m very grateful for all the opportunities and invitations sent my way.

Anyway, I didn’t know what to wear on Friday night. But I had seen a dress that Jenny had shared on Instagram that I really wanted to wear.

So on Friday morning I headed to Adrift’s new store at Woolloongabba. Even though the dress wasn’t on the racks, it was in the online store area so Kristy was able to get my size in.

I put the dress on and knew it was for me.

I also tried two other dresses and they found their way at the checkout.

It was a successful dress shopping experience with my two-year old and three-year old in tow.

I’m well kitted for dresses this summer. I won’t say no if any are sent my way though…

I will share the other dresses at a later date.

But I have to say I am LOVING off the shoulder dresses.

What I love about this black Bell dress is that it can be dressed up or down and I was able to do this by wearing the dress out on Friday night and on Saturday morning when I headed to Brisbane Fashion Weekend.

It comes with a belt so it can be cinched in at the waist, below the bust or on the hip. Or you could wear it without the belt which I did and wear it as a choker necklace.

The Bell dress comes in black, blue print, chambray and mint. Unfortunately the black and chambray is sold out in the L/XL but I reckon the S/M will fit a size 8 to 12 as it is quite roomy.

It’s a purchase that I’m happy with and I don’t mind paying full price when I ended up purchasing the last one for my size.

Are there any instagramers/bloggers that influence your shopping habits? Have you tried an OTS dress yet?
