Wearing a Maxi Kaftan Dress

When I went to Instyle Boutique’s VIP Night, I admired a Kaftan one of the staff was wearing. She was wearing a Ruby Yaya Kaftan that was knee length. I decided to try the maxi length and I was glad I did. I took advantage of the 20% discount and was excited to add it to my breastfeeding dress wardrobe.

I find it hard to wear maxi dresses because of their length. Their hems usually hit above my ankles and I like my maxi dresses to drape just over, but not so long I drape the hem along the floor. This Kaftan Dress is the perfect length and has cute pompoms that drape at the hem.

A maxi Kaftan Dress is a great summer staple because it can be worn smart casually or even dressed up.

This one that I’m wearing is light weight, has a great length, can be definitely be dressed up for an occasion. I’m thinking of wearing it on Christmas Day to lunch because our family has decided to do lunch at a restaurant as opposed to at home. It means less stress before the meal and no cleaning up afterwards. It also means no leftovers but I think I will still do some baking and a ham to tide us through.

I have put a selection of maxi kaftan dresses together. Most of these are breastfeeding friendly which is a big deal for me at the moment. The only thing to keep in mind is that some of these kaftans lace up at the front so it may be annoying to constantly lace up after feeding. With the Ruby YaYa Kaftan, I’m wearing a Small/Medium and there is a enough drape in the fabric for me to pull it down to feed to avoid undoing the tie.

The Embellished Kaftan

On the weekend I went away to Ballina with the family. Despite the warm weather, I found the water to be a bit too cool for my liking. Anyway someone had to hold Phoebe while my other two daughters played in the water.

Phoebe and I at the pool. Not much swimming happened but we had a lot of cuddles.

Sometimes I’m never sure whether I want to go for a swim or not, but I have learned to always put my swimmers on just in case. I usually wear a casual dress to cover up, but this time I wore my embellished kaftan. I wore this kaftan during my pregnancies with Magdalene and Phoebe. It was a bargain $29.95 from Tree of Life and I was drawn to it because of the bright colours and jewel embellishment at the opening of the bust.

Kaftan Goodness

Kaftan Up Close

The Embellished Kaftan is becoming more of a staple outfit as opposed to a beach cover up thanks to designers like Camilla. But I still don’t mind wearing a bit of bling to the pool or the beach. I love that I can wear this kaftan at home over a black maternity singlet and skinny jeans and be able to breastfeed in it. I’m all for versatile pieces that can be worn on a number of occasions.

I tried to put a collage together of some embellished kaftans but there were limited sizes in the ones I found or none in stock. It’s definitely a popular style to try this season. Places to look at for embellished kaftans include Blue Bungalow, Treasure Emporium, Tree of Life, and Boho Australia.

Do you wear beaded or embellished kaftans to the beach or by the pool? Where have you purchased yours?

Floor Length Capes

I have written before about my love of capes and how you can turn a scarf into a kimono. This week I’m revealing my love of floor length capes.

I am loving capes and kimonos or whatever you wish to call them because they are super breastfeeding friendly. They are a summer layer that looks fab with a long necklace.

I purchased this Erin Louise Mola Cape last week because it was on sale and I loved the colours. It is still available – see the link below.

Floor length capes are great because they cover your butt and can cover rounded shoulders when wearing a tank top.

When looking for floor length capes, my go to online stores are Erin Louise and St Frock. They are reasonably priced. I’m wearing a Large in the picture above and I’m a size 16 on top at the moment.

You can wear a floor length cape with short shorts if you want to cover the back of your legs. I like to wear them with skinny leg jeans, but I will also wear it over my swimmers at the beach too. Here are some styles to consider if you are wanting to add one to your wardrobe.

Every woman should own a white shirt

Every woman should own a white shirt. It’s one of the staples or basics of any wardrobe.

I bought my shirt from Ollie & Max last year after I had Magdalene. I realized I didn’t own a white shirt and that I was missing a vital basic from my wardrobe.

White shirts look great with nearly everything and anything. They can be dressed up or down. They are a great to wear when breastfeeding because any spilled milk camouflages into the colour of the shirt. Here are some current styles that would suit this season.

White Shirts Spring 20142

1. Ollie & Max Shirt $89.95

2. Witchery Stretch Silk Shirt $149.95

3. Bohemian Traders Ruffle Hem Blouse $129.00

The key to finding a good white shirt is good tailoring, sleeves that have the ability to be rolled up and not too see through. The transparency part doesn’t bother me too much because I usually wear a white cami underneath, and in this case below I have worn a white maternity singlet so that I can breastfeed Phoebe.

In this outfit I’m wearing my white Ollie & Max Shirt, a maxi skirt from Big W and an Adorne beaded necklace.  White sandals are from Novo last season.

I bought the skirt as a transition skirt post-pregnancy because sometimes I don’t want to keep wearing my maternity clothes.

Monochrome Trend for Spring 2015

The monochrome trend for Spring 2015 is one that everyone can easily add to their existing wardrobes. A black tee and some white and black patterned pants, a white shirt with black pants and a monochrome scarf, or a black jumpsuit with a white blazer are all outfits that embrace the monochrome trend and can be easily incorporated into your wardrobe. Black and white are classic colours. You will grab them time and time again.

I love monochrome because it can be accessorized with one other colour and it doesn’t require a lot of effort when putting an outfit together. I’ve compiled some items that are currently available in monochrome.

Monochrome Trend Spring 2015

1. Freez Fate Whirlwind Maxi $79*

2. Katies Graphic Zip Zag Skirt $39.95*

3. Katies Button Up Diamond Shirt $39.95*

4. Witchery Amber Sandal $129.95

5. Witchery Pippa Wedge $99.95

Monochrome is one of my go to outfit choices because it works every time. I love adding red or orange to my monochrome ensemble, like I did when I went to Problogger Conference.
