Planter Baskets Are a Stylish Way To House Your Plants Indoors

One of the most affordable ways to house your plants indoors is using planter baskets. Truth be known, all baskets can be turned into a planter basket. You just have to find the right size to accommodate the size of your pot.

I’ve used pom pom baskets to house my plants indoors and they have been a stylish way to cover over the black pot. It’s also saved having to transfer the plant into another pot.

Tips For Using Planter Baskets Indoors

Having used two baskets to decorate my plants, there are some things to consider.

1. Make sure your basket has a wide enough opening to fit your pot. Some baskets taper up and this can make it hard to get a larger plant pot into the basket.

2. Always put a pot saucer in the basket first and then place your plant pot in. The saucer will catch the water when you water your plant, preventing the basket to go mouldy underneath due to moisture.

3. Don’t over water your plant and cause the saucer to overflow as your basket will go mouldy (learned this from past experience)

4. If you are worried about mould, choose plastic plants instead.

5. There are so many varieties and styles of baskets to choose from. Seagrass and wicker are the main options. Consider a neutral basket to blend in with the interior of your home.

All Shades of Forest Green For Winter 2018

This winter it’s all about the shade of green, specifically forest green.

I had seen a forest green (bordering on a teal) wrap knit for $69.95. The first shipment of the cardigans sold out and when I saw the second shipment was available… I didn’t get in quick enough because my size had sold out again.

I’ve been finding this a lot with many of the trending colours this season. It seems to sell out as soon as it hits the online stores or shelves.

I condoned I wouldn’t end up purchasing the knit and would wait until more came through.

It wasn’t until I had gone to a shopping centre to get some Mother’s Day gifts that I saw Valley Girl had a similar knit in the colour I was after.

I went into the store, and not only did they have my size, it was only $24.95!

I promptly purchased on the spot and headed out to dinner with a friend last night for its first debut. I ended up removing the scarf because it was a bit too hot with so many layers.

It was really hard finding pieces that were available in all sizes with this forest green colour. You may have a better chance shopping in stores to see what’s available.

This shade of green can look blue in some lights and more green in others. I’ve found a selection of both these hues online.

What to wear with Forest Green?

Forest Green looks fab with navy, white, beige, caramel, tan, red, purple, dark pink, mustard and orange.

I’ve teamed my forest green knit with a leopard print scarf.

Soft Pants For The Win – The Stylish Pant For Winter

It’s been a long time between posts due to the recent change in my life with my new job. I’ve now finished my full time training and have started working from home. While I’ve gotten back into the swing of things at home, I neglected the blog for a few weeks to catch up on things I was forced to put aside while working full time.

Even though the blogposts were non-existent, I was still active on social media. You can still see my daily outfits on Facebook and Instagram. Lately I’ve been making more of an effort to wear all the pieces I own, rather than buy new clothes. Although, I have made some new purchases recently. They have literally been when I’ve been on my way to do an errand and have been something I had my eye on that was on sale. I will share these pieces with you soon.

But one particular piece of clothing I’m looking to add more of to my wardrobe is the soft pant.

Usually I wear some sort of jeans or jeggings during autumn, winter and spring. But now that I will be working late night shifts at home, the soft pant is going to make working those late hours comfier.

I own one pair of soft pants – navy and white stripe ones from Ruby and Lilli. They’ve been a very good investment purchase. But I’d like to have a few more available to wear so I’ve been scouring the net to find some other patterned or block colour soft pants to add to my wardrobe.

The key patterns that have caught my eye are the leopard print. I also wouldn’t mind a dark coloured pair as I have many tops that will go with these.

The benefit of wearing this type of pant from home as I work is it will feel as comfortable as PJs, but not look like them.

I can’t wear PJs when I work. I don’t know why, but it’s the way I am. So rather than force myself against my inner convictions, I will trick my brain with soft pants instead. The bonus of wearing these instead of pyjamas means if I have to get to the office during my shift, I won’t have to arrive in my PJs.

I also know these pants will be useful for the plane trip to the USA that we have planned at the end of the year. This thought alone has me adding one pair to cart as I type.

The winter interior trends for 2018 have been interesting to watch develop as designers incorporate the current colours and textural trends into their designs. I’m not loving all of it, but there are some things I do love and have in my home because I like those colours anyway (looking at you jewel tones).

As we know, interior trends can come and go, and what may be in now, will be out in the future. But nevertheless, if the current trends are right up your alley and you’re currently looking for ways to update your living room, this post is for you.

With any living space, there are the walls, furniture, windows, lighting, textiles and home decor to consider to bring the whole room together.

In today’s post, I’m sharing cushion combos that would work on a sofa, to incorporate the current trends into your living room or bedroom, without changing anything major in the room.

Neutral furniture (black, tan, white, beige, grey) always pares itself well to colourful and textural cushions. So I’m assuming you have this to pull off these cushion combinations.

1. Sage green, rust, terracotta, plum and millinneal pink tones with macramé textures and abstract geometrics.

2. Macramé cushions in black, cream and grey.

3. Jewel tones, faux fur throws and velvet sofas and cushions.

5. Metallic shades of copper, gold, rust and bronze velvet cushions pared back with grey.

How to Clean Tarnished Silver Jewellery

If you have abandoned wearing your silver jewellery because it’s tarnished, you need to try this DIY cleaning hack. This homemade solution will clean your tarnished silver jewellery easily, no scrubbing needed!

Four years ago, I got my first silver necklace from Tiffany & Co. Within a period of 6 months, I had two necklaces from Tiffany’s. One was for my 30th and the other was for our wedding anniversary.

I remember being so excited about owning my first piece of Tiffany & Co (I’ve even kept the boxes and bags), so it’s embarrassing to admit, both necklaces had been left in my jewellery organiser because both had tarnished severely.

I had made a mental note to take my necklaces to a jeweller to get cleaned so I could wear them again.

But then I saw a Facebook post showing how to clean silver with ekoWorx or Koh. I dunked my necklace into the solution, but it didn’t do much to take the tarnish away.

So, I googled some homemade recipes and decided to mix a few of the tips to see if I’d get a shiny, silver necklace.

I did a similar process a few years ago, when trying to remove the tarnish from a silver sugar bowl Jacob received from his late Nanna. It worked a treat, but didn’t quite take all of the tarnish away.

For my experiment, I put some aluminum foil into a container, placed my necklace on top, then I added 1 tablespoon of bicarb soda, ¼ cup of vinegar and another half cup of boiling water on top. I left my necklace in the container for half an hour. I used tongs to get my necklace out and I was impressed with the results.

My Tiffany & Co silver necklace was no longer tarnished. I used the same solution to clean my other key necklace, which worked just as effectively.

The key to the success of this cleaner is the chemical reaction that occurs between the silver and the aluminum foil.

The silver sulfide atoms transfer from the silver jewellery to the aluminum. This means there is no heavy scrubbing as the electrochemical reaction does all the cleaning.

The best part of this hack is you will most likely have all the ingredients at home.

I’ve now got two Tiffany & Co necklaces I can wear with pride again. And when they start to tarnish, I know what I’ll need to do to get them looking new again.
