Spring Summer 2020 Fashion Trends For Everyday Wear

The Spring Summer 2020 Fashion Trends are a repeat of patterns and styles we’ve seen before.
Spring Summer 2020 Fashion Trends For Everyday Wear

You may already have a few of these in your wardrobe from past seasons.

There are some styles I will embrace and others I will disregard as they won’t work with my fuller figure.

It’s been the year for emotional eating for me and as a result, I am rounder.

I’ve created a wardrobe for myself where if my weight fluctuates, my clothes will still fit.

But I also enjoy adding a seasonal trend to work with my existing pieces.

Nobody should be waking in the morning and not knowing what they’re going to wear because nothing fits or suits anymore. If you’ve gained or lost weight this year, love yourself enough to create a wardrobe which flatters your body.

If you need help, a stylist will certainly assist you.

We need to get over the number on the tag and not let it define us.

And trends come and go. It’s fun to see what is ‘current’ to refresh your wardrobe for a new season but you may already own a few which can be reworked this summer. So don’t feel the pressure to spend.

With that said, here are the spring summer fashion trends for 2020 you might like to check out.

Tiered Swing Dresses

This style of dress has been around since last summer. It’s a great piece to invest in if you want a dress which can be worn with sneakers or sandals.  They are a popular style of dress because the swing flatters most shapes. It’s an ideal style if you carry weight on your tummy (ME!).

Tie Dye

Tie Dye is back in and best of all you can actually make this yourself with a white t-shirt for little cost. Alternatively, these pieces make tie dye a trend I might consider…

Puffed Sleeves

Puffed sleeves are a feminine look which can balance out wider hips. Dresses or tops with puffed sleeves are definitely pieces to add to your summer 2020 wardrobe. Wear tops tucked into shorts for a slimline look.

I personally think dresses with puffed sleeves are the sweetest way to wear this trend.

Gingham

Gingham is a classic print which will always cycle through the seasons. Black and white is always a common colourway, but why not embrace other hues as a new take on this print.

Shirring

Love it or hate it, shirring is in this season. The key to pulling off this trend without feeling like a sausage is to buy a dress where the top bodice is shirred and finishes at the bust line or  waist with a draped skirt. If you’re still not keen, opt for a top with shirring details.

Linen

Linen is another love hate trend.

It looks sophisticated and it’s breathable, making it the perfect choice to wear in summer.

BUT it creases like crazy. For some, the creases are part of the look.

Linen shirts and swing tops are ideal when worn with denim shorts or white pants for a smart casual look.

Wide Leg pants and Culottes

Wide leg pants and culottes are great for summer paired with a slimmer top for balance.

I love the wide leg pants at Gorman as their fun prints scream summer. Wide leg pants are versatile as they can be worn everyday or dressed up for work. And even if most of us are still working from home, it’s always a backup for when we need to head into the office for a meeting.

Overalls and Jumpsuits

An easy way to get more wear out of your tees and tops is to layer with overalls. Jumpsuits are also trending and are a great alternative to a dress when going out.

Add Colour to Your Wardrobe With Rainbow Stripes

If you’re looking for a way to add colour to your spring/summer wardrobe, why not invest in rainbow stripes?

Whether subtle or bold, this is definitely a trend to try.

We’re acquainted with the navy and white or black and white stripe. Rainbow stripes are a fun take on a classic trend.

Whether worn vertically or horizontally, stripes can work for everyone.

A rainbow stripe dress can be layered with a denim jacket and tan sandals.

For tops, team with a denim short or block colour bottom.

Rainbow stripes are definitely dopamine dressing for summer. If you’re not sure which colour to embrace this season, why not wear them all.

Here are some gorgeous rainbow stripe pieces to inspire. My personal favourite is number 5.

Achievable Tasks You Can Do At Home While In Isolation

Call me crazy, but I thought home isolation would give me more time to get some things done around the home.

However with motivations low, I haven’t done as much as I had thought.

Nevertheless, the tasks I did complete were not time-consuming and are certainly achievable with a small amount of time.

12 Achievable Tasks You Can Do At Home While in Isolation

1. Wash makeup brushes

When was the last time you washed your makeup brushes? They should be washed once every month. I use shampoo to clean mine and allow the bristles to dry overnight. Never submerge the brush into a glass of water. Use the palm of your hand to wash your brushes.

2. Declutter old makeup

I’m prone to keeping old, empty concealers and foundation bottles in my makeup bag. Get rid of old makeup and empty bottles. This makes it easy to see what you do have, when you need it.

3. Sort out undies drawer

I have a drawer for all my delicates. Fold them and get rid of any underwear that no longer fits or has no elastic.

4. Cull shoe collection

Sort out shoes and check the heels and toes to see if they have holes or too much wear. Place the remaining shoes on a rack to keep them organised. Get boots resoled if needed.

5. Stock take toiletry bag

I always have a fully stocked toiletry bag with essentials. Now is the time to go through any empty bottles and make a list of items to keep your bag stocked.

6. Clean out handbag

Remove everything from your handbag and dispose of old receipts and rubbish. Put back what is only essential.

7. Sort one drawer at a time

If you have drawers of clothes, just do one drawer at a time instead of the whole chest at once.

I removed items from one drawer and organised my jewellery using a Kmart organiser. It’s easy to grab at a glance.

8. Clean full length mirror

My girls love to kiss my full length mirror. Give it a thorough clean with window cleaner or a spray of vinegar and a citrus essential oil.

9. Organise vanity cupboard

This task can be overwhelming, but it feels so good once it’s done. Get rid of beauty products you don’t intend to use and use clear trays to sort like for like products.

10. Turn around all the hangers in your wardrobe

You could remove all your clothes and declutter your wardrobe… or you could turn all the hangers around the opposite way. After a year, you will see which hangers are still facing the opposite way. You know these are the pieces you don’t wear often and can be sold or donated.

11. Cull scarf collection

The same rule for your clothes can apply to your scarf collection. I use a scarf holder to hold my scarves as I own many. To work out which scarves you wear the most, place a worn scarf on a coat hanger. After winter, the remaining scarves on the holder can be donated.

12. Organise jewellery

Use organisers to sort jewellery into groups. This will make it easy for locating a piece when you need it.

How to Style Your Home With Personal Memories

This post has been written in collaboration with MyPicture.com.au

There are many tips to style a house into a home. One of the easiest is to style your home with personal memories.

This doesn’t mean displaying photos in every nook and cranny. (Although, if you love this look, go for it.)

There are clever ways to integrate candid travel memories and personal portraits to create a home which feels authentically you.

If anything, this year has been a reminder to focus on what is important and cherish times when life was less stressful.

I’ve never looked at a photo album and not felt grateful for the memories created. So why don’t we have them on display?

If you’re after some modern ways to style your home with personal memories, take some inspiration from MyPicture.com.au.

Turn that landscape image into a work of art

My husband will always take a ‘winning’ landscape shot of a lake, mountain, tree or whatever environment we find ourselves enjoying.

turn beach photo into work of art for personal memories

Why not turn this picture into a work of art and print it on a canvas? Not only will you admire it in your home and remember a place you visited, the canvas will be personal to you.

Design an asymmetrical gallery wall

Gallery walls have been around for a while and they are a marvelous way to display a number of different memories on the one wall.

There are so many different ways to create a gallery wall. Most tend to be a balanced, symmetrical look. Change it up and create an asymmetrical gallery wall.

Create canvas prints in different sizes and orientations and display your gallery wall at the entrance or behind a console cabinet.

Create a story wall

Like the gallery wall, a story wall will share a moment in time to be cherished.

story wall makes personal memories on display

It could be about romance or a series of photos capturing the steps to finish a trek. You can feel the love and triumph in a story wall. It’s a beautiful way to personalise a wall in your home.

Display your own portrait

This may not be for everybody, but why not turn a head shot into your own personalised, portrait? Change the background to a bright colour for a bold look.

Alternatively, if you’re not keen to have your mug on display, get a photo taken with your back to the camera. This image is effective and can be replicated facing the beach with a surfboard in hand or looking down from a mountain view.

Add a Gingham Dress to Your Wardrobe

It may still be winter, but I am excited for the arrival of warmer weather. I love wearing dresses and I’m thinking it’s time to add a gingham dress to my summer wardrobe.

Three years ago I wrote about Gingham on the blog and how it was a trending pattern back in 2017.

Not much changes in fashion trends as often they repeat and come full circle a few years later.

Most patterns are classics. If you love how an item looks and feels on you, trends should have little weight.

But if you have invested in all the trending patterns over the years, you will find your wardrobe will always serve you well when trends change and emerge.

I have been going through my wardrobe and carefully considering what I’ve worn and will continue to wear with our new normal. I was going to part with a gingham shirt but I’ve kept it because it’s gingham and it’s the only gingham piece I own… at present.

A gingham dress will always be a classic to own as it holds itself with no need for accessories and can be versatile with sneakers or heels.

Here are some gingham dresses available online if you’re keen to add this style to your summer wardrobe too.
